The first few days working with Urpichallay have really been a learning experience. Carina, the lady who has been planning our stay here in the city has helped all of us learn more about the community and the organization. Urpichallay is an organization that is trying to help the people here preserve the Andino culture- as she explained it to us the people here have been loosing their culture due to modernization. They are really involved in areas like education and the agriculture of the community. Our group will be working a lot in the education area, the last 2 days of our stay here we will be out in the fields pickng potatoes and corn. That´ll definately be exciting!
The second day we were here we went over to 3 schools and were able to meet the kids and the professors that we will be working with. The kids were all super excited to have us… we were able to teach one of the classes in Huashcar english, (we taught them the days of the week). I loved it, it was such a nice and unique experience, I will never forgett that.
The housing at Urpichallay….man! AWESOME! I love it, its been great- the people have been really nice and have taken very good care of us. And I have to mention that Andreas was right about Beatriz´s cooking…its bomb. Very fresh, I honestly feel like im in a movie. I always thought that movies exagerated when it came to the Latin American culture, with the music and the authentic food and all, but man….thats exactly how it is over at Beatriz´s. Wish you guys were here to experience it yourself and know what im talking about. I´ll post up some pics though =)
Write yo you guys later, Chao!
